APYFC has always welcomed female players and in 2013 the club formally established a girl’s section with 2 teams in the Capital Girls League at U12 and U10. Since then, the female game at APY has expanded to the point where there are now 11 teams from U9 to U16 with many former youth players from the original two teams having gone onto or are now playing for the adult section's women's side who play in The Greater London Women’s League in Division 2 North.

As the female professional game has established itself in its own right on the world football stage, young girls have started to dream of becoming footballers just like boys of their age have always done. For most players, male or female, the joy of participating at any level is what keeps children playing through childhood into adulthood and often well beyond the age that professional players retire!

During that lifelong journey with the sport, players become parents with children who often share their passion for the game and that is when the parents become the next generation of coaches, managers and travelling supporters who encourage the next generation of young players to enjoy the game. It is also a cycle that keeps the game alive and thriving and ultimately allows the professional games to continue to develop and flourish. If APY has one overriding hope, it is to develop young girls’ enjoyment and ability to play football in the hope they will in some way become a part of the great cycle of football life. One that ultimately becomes indistinguishable from the male game in terms of popularity and importance
